Walt Edwards (1991)
Edwards is considered one of the best “big men” CCRI has ever had. “Stretch” is one of CCRI’s all-time leading scorers with 682 points is the all-time leading rebounder with 761. After CCRI, he went to play at Providence College for one season and then went on to play for Husson University in his last year. He was inducted into Husson University’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1988. Over there he went undefeated, winning 30 games in a row, only losing in the first round of the NAIA National Tournament. That basketball team was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2012. In that 1976 season, he set the college’s record of 479 rebounds, which is yet to be beaten. Since graduating from Husson, he went to be the director of Angelo Zuccolo Recreation Center and a counselor of juveniles at the Rhode Island Training School.
