Warwick, RI – Coming off a third consecutive appearance in the NJCAA Division III Region XXI championship finals, the Community College of Rhode Island volleyball team launches its 2024 season with a series of Information Sessions beginning in August.
The first of two sessions is Thursday, August 1 at 5:30 at the Lincoln Campus Field House followed by a second session Wednesday, August 7 at 5:30 at the Warwick Campus Field House and a final session Thursday, August 8 in Lincoln, also at 5:30. All three events will provide opportunity for current CCRI students and prospective student athletes to learn about the program and meet fellow student athletes and coaches.
CCRI volleyball is led by head coach John Dao, a longtime assistant under former head coach Patrick Chin who took over the program in 2023. Under Dao’s guidance, the Knights finished 11-6 overall and 10-5 in Region XXI, advancing to the regional finals against No. 1 seed Northern Essex. The team played its best in October, winning its last five regular-season matches to qualify for the playoffs and beating Bunker Hill in the regional semifinals.
Since the program resumed in 2021 following the COVID-19 pandemic, the Knights have been one of the premier programs in the northeast. The 2021 team captured the first of back-to-back regional titles and came within a victory of a trip to the NJCAA D-III National Tournament. In 2022, the Knights amassed a 13-2 record, including 13-1 in league play, and advanced to the Northeast District championship after winnings its second consecutive regional title.
